Serving South Carolina Since 1891

Daughters of the American Revolution

On behalf of the South Carolina State Society Daughters of the American Revolution (SCDAR), I welcome you to our State Society website.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization composed of women who can prove lineal descent from our American Revolutionary War patriots.

The South Carolina State Society was founded in 1891. With 69 chapters and over 4,700 members, our membership is composed of a diverse and dynamic group of Daughters who actively serve in their communities to promote our objectives of Historic Preservation, Patriotic Endeavor and Promotion of Education.

From utilizing NSDAR grants to ensure the restoration of historic properties and the conservation of significant textiles to maintaining the SCDAR Genealogical Collection, our Historic Preservation efforts are ever evolving. Patriotism and the support of our military hold a very special place of the hearts of our South Carolina Daughters. We strive to serve both our veterans in local veteran hospitals and our active duty men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces who are stationed around the world. The Education of our children is of the utmost importance to our members. Tamassee DAR School was founded by South Carolina Daughters in 1919 and today serves as a safe haven for children. We volunteer in our schools and award classroom grants each year.

We, the Daughters of the South Carolina State Society, are ever mindful, as we continue to strive toward the future, that it is our solemn duty and responsibility to emulate the spirit of the men and women who achieved American independence.

We invite you to inquire about DAR and membership by contacting a chapter in your area.
